Display Functions Mode on HP Crts

When a program is not working as expected on an HP terminal, turn on Display Functions using the F7 key of Modes keys or Esc-Y. You can then see the Escape Sequences and Control Characters that are sent and received. Remember to turn off Display Functions .

Unless you are on a network you see the DC1 that MPE prints to indicate it is ready for input. When you press Return you see a CR and LF echoed to the tscreen. The NUL character (binary 0, ^@) is usually stripped by the terminal interfaces and will not appear.
