Screen mode makes Qedit available to VT terminals
Surrey, B.C., Canada -- November 1, 1996 -- Robelle announces the newest version of Qedit for HP-UX. Qedit/UX is modelled on Robelle's popular Qedit for MPE, the fast, flexible, full-screen editor. Qedit/UX version 4.5, however, offers a new Screen mode that makes all the full-screen editing features of Qedit available to users of VT terminals.
Qedit's Screen mode works with most VT terminals such VT100 and VT220. Unlike Visual mode, Screen mode does not rely on the block-mode feature of HP terminals. Screen mode allows users to make changes to the entire screen, just as they would on a PC editor. In addition to expanding the functions open to existing VT users, this simplified interface makes Screen mode a good introduction to the HP-UX operating system for users who don't work on HP computers all day, or for novice HP users.
Other enhancements to Qedit/UX 4.5 include the ability to print to an HP-UX device or an attached printer, and more flexibility in working with include and usefiles, nested files that are invoked by the Use command located in each file.
All Qedit enhancements are compatible with HP-UX 10.0. As a member of Hewlett-Packard's VAB Prep Program, Robelle has access to the most recent upgrades to HP-UX. This allows Robelle to keep Qedit/UX up-to-date with the latest changes to the operating system.
Qedit/UX offers all the speed and flexibility that users of Qedit for HP 3000 have come to enjoy. The user can stay in Qedit all day to run programs, execute shell commands (Qedit knows which shell the user prefers), and shell scripts. In addition to its full-screen mode with cut-and-paste, Qedit also has a powerful command mode for editing files interactively or in shell scripts.
